THE NECESSITY TO PERFORM WUDU AGAIN AFTER PERFORMING GHUSL

Intimate parts of the body (satr/awrah) starts from navel and ends at the knees. All Muslim men are required to cover themselves from navel to knees all the time (knees should be covered as well).

When performing ghusl, it is a requirement that men should cover their intimate parts (satr) with a thick piece of cloth because a thin piece of cloth will stick to the body when wet, allowing the colour of the skin to be visible. In the olden days and even now in rural areas, Muslims perform ghusl in this manner (sunnah). If ghusl is performed in this manner (satr covered), then it is not required to perform wudu again after ghusl to perform Namaaz, recite The Holy Quran etc.

However, in the present time, modern houses have showers built within the house. If men are taking shower with no clothes on i.e. their satr is not covered, then the wudu that is performed as part of the ghusl becomes makhrooh (disliked or an offensive act). Hence, men who take showers with no clothes on have to perform the wudu again after putting on their clothes in order to perform Namaaz, recite The Holy Quran etc.

But if the men had their satr covered while taking the shower, then they do not have to perform wudu again.
